SILENT PROTEST FOR MLK DAY
In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday, members of Saint Edmund’s joined 86 other people in a protest against authoritarianism in our country. It was organized by Indivisible, and was inspired by a similar protest in Ohio.
A video of that protest can be viewed here
Notes about the protest:
• RSVP to Michele
(Email: coxonmichele@gmail.com)
This helps with set up plans and those that RSVP (and arrive at 11:30 AM) will be at the head of the line for signs. On 1/19 meet at the Moose Lodge @ Mori Point to get your signs. Protest will occur at Mori Point and Hwy 1.
• Please dress all in black (pants, shirt, dark or neutral shoes, cap or hat optional).
• Signs will be provided. Please, no handmade signs or flags.
• We will distribute ourselves along the protest route according to chalk markings.
• For those without signs, please dress in black and stand in solidarity with the sign bearers
• Inclement weather: Bring a black umbrella but since the signs are not waterproof, high likelihood of rain will result in a postponement.
• If we have your RSVP, we will send a confirmation email.
• After the protest, please return your signs to the staging location.
We very much look forward to your joining us on the 19th!
On May 4, 2024 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco California, The Rev. Austin Keith Rios was ordained and consecrated at Bishop Coadjutor of the Episcopal Diocese of California.
Truly our St Edmund delegates witnessed the work of the Holy Spirit as Bishop Rios was surrounded by bishops and laid their hands and bestowed upon him the historic apostolic succession as the 1,165th Bishop in the Episcopal Church U.S.A. Bishop Rios is also the first Latino-American to serve as bishop in the Diocese of California. It was a joy to witness a multicultural, multilingual, and multifaceted service at that beautiful gathering and celebration. We see a new beginning, a new hope in the leadership of Bishop Rios.

INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY
In honor of international peace day on September 21st, there were several peace activities in Pacifica Three members of Saint Edmund’s participated in a public reading of Dr. Martin Luther King’s 1967 speech “Beyond Vietnam, A Time to Break the Silence” in front of the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica. It was a well-attended event put on by the Pacifica Peace People.
RESOURCES FOR EXPLORING RACISM AND EQUALITY
JOHN LEWIS 1940-2020 “Though I may not be with you, I urge you to answer the highest calling of your heart and stand up for what you truly believe. In my life I have done all I can do to demonstrate that the way of peace, the way of love and nonviolence is the more excellent way. Now it is your turn to let freedom ring.”

Also, on June 7th Anna Devere Smith was Grace Cathedral’s guest preacher. Anna’s activism in exploring racism and inequality brought a special perspective to Grace Cathedral’s sermon as our nation and world are seeking to move forward with meaningful dialogue and changes in systemic racism.
If you missed her sermon, you can find the link to it on Grace Cathedral’s website at gracecathedral.org. Click on “Services and Sermons” under “Spiritual Life.”
